Almost exactly two years ago we spotlighted the then brand-new Seattle-based skin care line Kari Gran and singled out the company’s Lip Whip as a summer essential. The co-founder recently welcomed a group of fans and media members to the Distillery Lofts to celebrate a new collection of mineral makeup to go with the existing hydrating and cleansing oils.

Back in the early 2000s, Bare Essentials (now BareMinerals) sparked this beauty trend but as beauty freaks have probably since learned, not all “mineral” makeup actually contains minerals. Kari Gran does, as well as organic ingredients that provide clean coverage and sun protection aimed at irritation-free, radiant skin.

“After being diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder, I decided to take a second look at the products I put on my skin,” co-founder Gran told me at the launch party. The result is a mineral makeup system and lipstick/lip balm hybrid that “works great individually, but also plays well with others.”

Gran describes the line as the “little back dress of eco-skin care” for good reason: the plastic-free black packaging is timeless and the natural look really never goes out of style.

Kari Gran products are available for purchase at karigran.com and the Fairmount Hotel Spa, Larrabee Center, Bocz Salon, Cake Skin Care, and Flawless Beauty Bar in Kirkland.
