September's Independent Designer Showcase during Bellevue Fashion Week was an undisputed hit of 2012, the year in style, so it follows that 2013's version is going to be pretty fantastic.

2012 Designer Showcase winner Carole McClellan and I at the premiere event. See yourself in her place? Better get on that application now.

If you or someone you know is a talented and up-and-coming fashion mind, please be advised that the call for designers is out now.

What makes for a strong candidate? Vision, hardwork, and the willingness to learn.

What makes the Independent Designer Showcase different is what makes it so good; the Bellevue Collection team, the fashion show team, and the other judges and I work with all eight local designers extensively over the course of many months to strengthen ideas and sharpen goals so that it's not just a contest but an exploration in the business of fashion in Seattle.

Designers who apply for the showcase need not be established, and they need not be brand newbies. Note the show isn't called Emerging Designer Showcase, which leaves room for many different paths.

Last time around the group we worked with included a designer with her own shop, one with a history of producing his own shows, a handbag genius, and a recent fashion school grad or two. The winner made a name for herself in the 70s. Don't call it a comeback.

Who will be in the mix for 2013? I don't know. You tell me.
