The Dutch Bike Company ’s former digs on Shilshole had a waterfront charm, but the shop wasn’t all that easy to find. Now that it’s better situated in Ballard’s supercool new-old Kolstrand Building (4743 Ballard Ave NW, Ballard, 206-789-1678; dutchbikeseattle.com) it’s even easier to hop on a city-friendly cycle. Rent one to cruise the canal just like they do in Amsterdam, or trade your clunker in for a greener, leaner commute on a Minnesota-designed Civia Loring nine-speed ($1,398). The bike’s bamboo carrier carts laptops, groceries, and shoulder bags, such as the Canvasco satchel ($162), made in Germany from recycled boat sails and available at Eurostyle Your Life (2008 Westlake Ave, Belltown, 206-419-3131; eurostyleyourlife.com). The lifestyle and home store recently closed its Fremont location to concentrate on the outpost near FareStart and Whole Foods.
