Cousins Dustin Nelson and Erica Sheehan bring the best Seattle gem-and-metal artisans (Xenia Mara, Maria Carter) together with the most innovative and buzzed-about high style jewelers (Iosselliani, Knight & Hammer) and international designers that aren’t yet carried at places like Barneys and Bergdorf. (But they will be soon.) Yet it isn’t just the selection that makes Hitchcock standout. First there’s its neighborhood—you just don’t expect to find the nexus of glamorous and edgy accessories on a little tree-lined street in Madrona—and then there’s the environment that Nelson and Sheehan have created. Nelson sources the most esoteric vintage and otherwise unseen objects and together the two transform the shop with conceptual themes. It might be outfitted to evoke a NASA engineer’s Mad Men-esque office (so World’s Fair-era Seattle) on one visit, a post-modern art gallery the next. With window dressings that rival those at big city department store’s and a welcoming spirit that feels like Mayberry, Hitchcock inspires and charms in an instant.
