On January 30, the annual Hutch Award Luncheon at Safeco Field raised a record $485,000 for early cancer detection research at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. The program featured the 48th Hutch Award recipient, Barry Zito, all-star pitcher for the San Francisco Giants, as well as Major League Baseball icon and former Seattle Mariners manager Lou Piniella. The Hutch Award is given annually to an MLB player who best exemplifies the honor, courage, and dedication of legendary baseball player and manager Fred Hutchinson.
