For Saturday:

It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

This seasonal sister of Seattle book lovers’ favorite, hangar-sized extravaganza in Magnuson Park crunches into the Lopez Room at Seattle Center but still makes for an equally epic book sale. As always, proceeds benefit your Seattle Public Library.

Friends of the Seattle Public Library's Holiday Book Sale, Sat Dec 8, 9am–5pm, Lopez Room, Seattle Center, 305 Harrison St, free.

For the Joy of Chickens

Chicken ownership, after vegetable gardening, is the next biggest step toward living off the grid, ensuring post-apocalypse survival, and—I suppose—sustainability.  The class will employ the Stone Soup Garden’s own fluffy fowl for live demonstrations.

Oh, the Joy of Chickens! Sat Dec 8, 10am–12pm, Central District Chicken Coop, email susan@stonesoupgardens.com for address and cost.

Get Your Local Gifts and Tunes

Two good causes—the arts non-profit Vera Project and independent Hollow Earth Radio—bring you one of the most locally minded holiday fairs in Seattle. Featuring performances by Northwest musicians and an array of regional vendors. Also, interactive silk screening.

The 5th Annual Vera Project/Hollow Earth Radio DIY Holiday Fair, Sat Dec 8, 11am–5pm, Vera Project, Warren Ave N & W Republican St, free.

Also this weekend:

Punk Rock Flea Market, Sat Dec 8, 12pm–8pm, Underground Events Center, 2407 1st Ave, $1.

For Sunday:

Get Gay Married!

Seal your newly official gay marriage with a kiss. Now that the three-day waiting period has passed, City Hall will be festooned with displays crafted by local artists—perfect backdrops for your wedding vows. Local judges will officiate. RSVP required.

Get Married at City Hall, Sun Dec 9, 10am-5pm, City Hall, 600 Fourth Ave, free.

Benevolent Santa Babies

Nail two birds of joy with one stone: Let your kids meet Santa and help grant a terminally ill child’s wish. Ticket proceeds benefit Seattle’s Make-A-Wish Foundation, and include a plated brunch, holiday craft making, and a photo with the big red-suited man himself.

Season of Wishes: Brunch with Santa, Sun Dec 9, 9–11am, Four Seasons Hotel, 99 Union St, $25–$400.

And for Today:

Recipes for Food Justice

Seattle’s Community Alliance for Global Justice marks the release of their book, Our Food, Our Right, with readings from four contributors. Even better: included in the ticket cost are wholesome drinks, foods, and desserts made from the book’s›› righteous recipes.

Our Food, Our Right: Recipes for Food Justice, Fri Dec 7, 7–8:30pm, Burke Museum, 17th Ave NE & NE 45th St, UW Campus, $5.

Bishops for Gay Marriage

As Hurricane Sandy interfered with Bishop Gene Robinsion’s more strategically scheduled pre-election talk, the openly gay clergyman will now be preaching to—and celebrating with—the choir.

Straight Talk About Gay Marriage, Fri Dec 7, 7:30–9pm, Town Hall, 1119 Eighth Ave, $5.
