Buildings Still Contributing to People in Bellevue

By Erica C. Barnett October 12, 2011

Back in May, we reported on the odd case of buildings---or, rather, corporations named after buildings owned by one particular Bellevue real estate developer, Louis Nickols---contributing to anti-light rail Bellevue city council members and council challengers. Nickols has not contributed as an individual to any city council candidate; Bellevue has no contribution limits.

This past week, Nickols-controlled buildings contributed to the campaign of Patti Mann, a onetime Bellevue school board candidate who's running (as part of a slate backed by Bellevue megadeveloper Kemper Freeman) against council incumbent and Sound Transit board member Claudia Balducci).

Previously, the buildings gave to Aaron Laing, who was running against incumbent Grant Degginger (who has since announced plans to retire) and incumbent Jennifer Robertson. Both Laing and Robertson oppose Sound Transit's preferred light-rail route through South Bellevue.

Specifically, the contributions to Mann from Nickols-controlled buildings include the following checks, all bearing the address of Nickols Realty (14131 NE 21st) in Bellevue:

$200 from LLN 20th St., LLC, on October 9;

$200 from NOLO LLC DBA N-21 NOLO, on October 9;

$200 from JNL Building LLC, on October 9;

$200 from L&C, LLC, on October 9; and

$200 from Center Building, LLC, on October 9.

Nickols did not immediately return a call for comment.
