As we reported in Fizz this morning, King County Council member Joe McDermott, who is gay, has introduced an amendment to the county budget to direct the anticipated increase in county marriage-license revenues from the passage of R-74, the gay-marriage measure, to programs serving LGBTQ youth.

Today, we talked to a member of McDermott's staff, who said McDermott estimates "very conservatively" that 770 same-sex couples will marry in King County in the first year gay marriage is legal, bringing in about $50,000 from the $64 license fee.

Not a bad way to celebrate the right of same-sex couples to legally commemorate their relationships.
