Seattle Met’s annual Top Doctors rankings are in. Nearly 4,000 doctors in the Seattle metropolitan area participated in our new and improved survey, the result of a partnership between Seattle Met and Avvo. Avvo rates and profiles 90 percent of doctors in the U.S., including every doctor in Washington State.
The 2011 survey is more comprehensive than ever, with active participation from almost 40 percent of doctors practicing in King, Kitsap, and Snohomish counties, and parts of Pierce County. Avvo’s proprietary algorithms rate doctors on a 10-point scale, employing not only peer endorsements but factors such as experience, education, training, disciplinary history, fellowships, hospital privileges, and awards. Avvo’s dynamic ratings of the 9,933 doctors in the survey area are regularly refreshed based on new information gleaned from doctors as well as from certifying and licensing boards. The doctors on the pages that follow represent the top 5 percent of practitioners in their fields as of May 24.
For specialists not included in Avvo’s service—acupuncturists, chiropractors, naturopaths, optometrists, and podiatrists—the rankings are based on nominations from doctors, nurses, physician’s assistants, and other health care professionals. Our survey asked those professionals to name the colleagues they would choose to treat themselves and their loved ones. The resulting list of 612 top practitioners in their fields is presented here alphabetically by specialty and alphabetically by last name.
Seattle Met researchers gave each Top Doctor the opportunity to specify areas of focus within his or her practice or exemplary cases recently treated. For example, a doctor in the field of cardiology might list cardiovascular risk assessment, preventive cardiology, diagnostic cardiology, and cholesterol management to provide the reader with more context regarding her practice. This in no way indicates that the doctor’s practice is limited to those areas of focus.
As of press time, all the practitioners on our list were certified to practice in their fields by the state’s medical licensing board (Washington State Department of Health, 360-236-4700, option 3; doh.wa.gov, click Provider Credential Search).
We’ve given close attention to creating a comprehensive and detailed list, but this reference is best used as just one step in the careful journey toward finding doctors who are right for you.

Dr. Dorcas McLennan has been my Dr. for a very long time, and I have to say she is the best Dr. ever. She had her practice by Valley Medical and she then moved to Swedish in Ballard, I chose to follow her althought it is very far from my house and my work as she the BEST!
I haven’t seen Dr. Mark Brakstad’s name, he is a superb general surgeon from Northwest Hospital.
Id like to see the addition of an Integrative Medicine category. There are MDs out there who practice this, not just naturopaths and many of us would rather see a trained MD.
where are the doctors from orthopedicspecialistsofseattle.com? they provide the best care in seattle for orthopedic surgery.
Gabrielle Morris Occupational medicine – I am SHOCKED she is listed here.
I have a tumor and it took her 3 months to schedule an MRI to discover it, after I’d also been having pain for 9+ months. I got multiple letters from L&I that were addressed to her and cc’d to me, that she claimed she never saw. My primary physician and physical therapists recommended MRI but Morris would not get me one.
I DO NOT recommend her. She was not willing to do anything for me and did not listen to any of my concerns. All she wanted to do was close my case.
Please consider this before choosing Dr Morris.
