COFFEE CURE

Attention latte lovers: Your coffee offers more than a morning boost. Long thought to have cancer-fighting properties, it turns out that caffeine can also eliminate damaged cells from skin, even after ultraviolet exposure. University of Washington researcher Dr. Paul Nghiem is working with Rutgers University’s Allan Conney (who found that skin cancer rates among mice fell a whopping 72 percent after caffeine was repeatedly applied to their skin) to figure out how, exactly, the stimulant affects human skin cells. That’s great news for the 1 million Americans diagnosed with skin cancer each year, but human studies have only just started. In the meantime you can
