Most Halloween festivities took place over the weekend, but true blues looking to get festive on the actual day have a handful of options before them. Here, some to consider.
La Carta de Oaxaca and Mezcaleria Oaxaca
Technically Dia de Muertos is meant to be feted on November 1, but the Ballard Mexican mainstay and its newer Queen Anne sibling are bumping up their annual celebration. The former is prepping a street-style menu for dinner, while the latter is doing a noon-to-close Dia de Meurtos menu plus special mezcal cocktails. A mariachi band plays Mezcaleria from 5:30 to 6:30 before venturing to Ballard at 6:45.
The Pine Box
The place is a former funeral parlor so yeah, a fitting option for tonight. To boot, a dozen pumpkin beers are lined up, and potentially more.
Come for the discounted drinks and DJ, stay for what's sure to be some of the best costume sightings—on the Hill or elsewhere. Festivities go from 8pm to close.
Naked City Brewery and Taphouse
Starting at 6 local performers Power Skeleton and DJ Nicfit accompany screenings of Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness. Plenty of seasonal ales are promised, and prizes go to best costume.
The Capitol Hill tiki bar is trading pumpkin for pineapple in its carving contest. Limbo and "freaky-tiki" cocktails featuring Plantation rum are also on tap.
While wine most certainly pairs well with Halloween candy, Michael Mina's grape-centric crowdpacker is going the cocktail route with "zombie punch" and $5.74 drinks like the Corpse Reviver #74 and the Blood and Sand. Happy hour starts at 3pm and includes food specials.
Brave Horse Tavern
The courtyard is making way for the Dog and Pony parade, but inside find festive libations including the Trick or Treat: a pint of pumkin ale, candy corn, and Four Roses bourbon for $13.
And some food freebies:
At Coa in Maple Leaf kids ages 12 and under eat free, and at Blind Pig Bistro anyone donning a getup snags a complimentary dessert. (If it's the chocolate crémeux, you're in luck.) Trick-or-treaters in Fremont should swing by Bluebird for scoops of jack-o-lantern ice cream.
