Anchovies and Olives and Bar Cotto
Chef Zach Chambers has put together a special menu items--nay, two sets of special menus. One for each of the adjoined restaurants he helms on Capitol Hill. And half the proceeds of each dish goes to Chefs Collaborative. At Anchovies and Olives you can order risotto with smoked Penn Cove mussels or Neah Bay halibut with pickled cipollinis, buttered turnips, and toasted hazelnuts. Over at the more casual Bar Cotto, it's a Bluebird farro salad with locally grown asparagus and a soft-boiled egg, and a pizza made with Salumi's incredible finnocchiona and fior di latte. Get them all night on April 22.
The fine-dining spot at Cedarbrook Lodge is putting on a limited five-course menu Monday through Thursday, April 22 through 25, to benefit Seattle Chefs Collaborative. Chef Mark Bodinet's sustainability-minded menu is $75 and includes a cauliflower creme with white truffle and grilled pears, Neah Bay halibut, ribeye from Snake River Farms, and lemon verbena ice cream with burnt marshmallow and vanilla shortbread. Ooh, optional organic and biodynamic wine pairings are $35 per person. You'll want to reserve.
It's April, and the compost cupcake is back: coconut, coffee, oats, chocolate chips, vanilla cake crumble, Tim's Original potato chips, grass clippings, and eggshells. Fine, those last two aren't real. Get 'em throughout the month at all the Cupcake Royale cafes.
Earth Day is a big tradition around here; each year the beer bar challenges local breweries to deliver their beer for the week sans automobiles. And you know what? Brewers actually do it. Washington Beer Blog says the record for compliance goes to 7 Seas Brewing, which delivered a keg by bike. From Gig Harbor. More than 50 miles away. The only beers poured throughout next week will be ones that arrive via people-propelled conveyances.
Pan Pacific Hotel
The hotel has a variety of Earth Day observances on the books, one of which is a series of Tuesday happy hours that run alongside a Glassybaby pop-up shop. The final one happens April 23 from 4 to 8. Order a $12 cocktail and $4 goes to a local charity and make a Glassybaby purchase (people are obsessed with those votives, yeah?) and 10 percent of the purchase goes to One Day's Wages...along with a matched donatoin from Pan Pacific for 20 percent of that purchase. Math is hard.
Tilth, Golden Beetle, and Agrodolce
On April 22 only, a special organic cocktail created by Golden Beetle bar manager and house cocktail guru Andy McClellan will be offered at all Maria Hines restaurants. The pear-ginger caipirinha is made from Novo Gold Organic Cachaca, Bartlett pears, fresh ginger, soda water, and a sprig of mint. Get an old-fashioned glass of this fine concoction for $12, with $1 benefitting the PCC Farmland Trust—an organization that Hines is closely involved with to support local farmers who take part in sustainable and organic growing methods.
The locavore-focused restaurant is spending Earth Day rolling out a lunch menu that's new, improved, and even more local. The combo of protein, sauce, and two sides runs $16; customize your own combo from offerings like Carlton Farms baby back ribs, smoked chicken, beet and carrot salad, kale coleslaw, and fried Walla Walla onions.
