On a happier note, Flying Squirrel Pizza Company is open in Georgetown.

OPENINGS

Ethan Stowell Restaurants at the Wallingford Farmers Market
The Wednesday market at Meridian Park just got a little bit tastier, as Stowell will dispatch a different chef from his realm each week. They’ll be peddling seasonal meals made with market-fresh ingredients. Check the ESR Facebook page to find out who will be making an appearance each week.

Restaurant Marron
Next Wednesday, June 11, is the long-awaited opening of Eric and Zarina Sakai’s restaurant in the Loveless Building. Eric Sakai's original 16-course tasting menu hasn’t come to fruition (yet), but instead he's offering two- to three-course meals alongside an eight to 10-item “carte blanche” menu with beverage pairings chosen by Zarina.

Flying Squirrel Pizza in Georgetown
Flying Squirrel’s third iteration opened its doors yesterday, with one new addition to the burgeoning pizza empire’s already fantastic menu, per Eater Seattle. The new locale debuted the strawberry alarm pizza, a summer pie with Zoe's Meats coppa, toasted walnuts, Laura Chenel goat cheese, and sliced strawberries. The Georgetown location has a patio and a bar alongside the regular restaurant space, too, decked out with some gems from The Big Lebowski.

CLOSINGS

Dot's Charcuterie and Bistro
Owners Miles James and Robin Short took to Facebook last night to share the bad news: The sublimely meaty spot that began life in 2011 as Dot's Delicatessen, is closing. Today, Friday, June 6, is its last day in business.

Fifth and John Food Truck Pod
The pod that hit Seattle Center last month has closed. The truck lineup was fantastic, the location was convenient, but Seattle Center workers apparently weren’t ready to change their lunch routines. (H/t to Lindsay Cohen for the info.)

COMING SOON

Omega Ouzeri
Capitol Hill’s new REO Flats building on 14th between Pike and Pine is going Greek; this week it announced that Vios owner Thomas Soukakos will open an ouzo and meze (Greek small plates) restaurant. It should open in December, reports Eater Seattle. Soukakos plans to kick start his ouzeri, a fresh take on the classic Greek cafe, with “ouzo-giving,” which is exactly what you’re picturing if you’re picturing a Thanksgiving feast comprised entirely of small-plate Greek food.

Single Shot
Capitol Hill Seattle Blog solved its own mystery in discovering that Re:Public owner Ruadhri McCormick and photographer Spike Mafford have teamed with chef James Sherrill (one of our top new chefs of 2013) to replace Mafford’s Summit Ave gallery with a new bar-centered restaurant. The name refers to photography, not coffee. Single Shot aims to open by the end of this summer.

EXPANSION MODE

FareStart
FareStart has signed a lease for a space in the giant, Art Deco Pacific Tower, atop Beacon Hill. The space gives the organization much more room for training and support services, but FareStart's restaurant and guest chef series will stay in the Virginia Street location. But (much like some high-profile chef projects happening around town), the new FareStart space will have an espresso bar and grab-and-go café, scheduled to open September 1.

AWARDS & ACCOLADES

Pacific Northwest Cider Awards
Schilling Cider Company's popular ginger offering won best in show at the first PNCA awards ceremony. Cideries from around the Northwest submitted a total of 95 ciders. Here's a list of winners from each of the 10 categories. Soon, Schilling and its ciders will have a permanent presence in Fremont.
