The latest installment from Ethan Stowell—Red Cow in Madrona—is open for business. A departure from the chef's signature seasonal Italian fare, the restaurant serves steak frites, housemade charcuterie, and other bistro fare. Stowell's soon-to-be four-seat restaurant Noyer, which will sit directly behind Red Cow, is due to open later this spring.
French Fry Heaven
After much MUCH anticipation, the fry-centric chain’s first franchise west of Texas is now open in South Center Mall. As we wrote before, French Fry Heaven was temporarily in limbo. But no more—the fryer is hot and the Belgian-style fries with more toppings than you can shake a fry at are awaiting you.
The new late-night Broadway hangout from the duo behind the popular dive-bar Montana is projected to open over the weekend. As of Thursdsay night, owners Kate Opatz and Rachel Marshall were busy hot-gluing hundreds of red and yellow tortilla chips onto the long bar. Expect Mexicanish comfort/bar food, i.e. nachos with homemade cheese, and mixed drinks on tap, part of the successful formula at the aforementioned Montana.
Murray Stenson Update
Eater Seattle recently caught up with the famed Seattle barman, who left his gig at Il Bistro a awhile back, and is still thinking about opening a bar of his own. No word on where he’ll set up next, but as Stenson told Eater, he’s “narrowed it down to bars not stocking Apple Puckers or Fireball.”
Angie Roberts Moves to Marination
The former head chef at Joshua Henderson's Hollywood Tavern is now running the culinary show at Marination Nation. Roberts will oversee Marination's three kitchens, the food truck Marination Mobile, Capitol Hill’s Marination Station, and West Seattle’s Marination Ma Kai. There's some intiguing talk of a summer luau and barbeque at the West Seattle location.
Tinello Becomes Radici
After receiving cease-and-desist letters from an NYC restaurant called Il Tinello, and losing a partner, the Pioneer Square Italian restaurant is getting an overhaul via Kickstarter, according to Eater Seattle. The goal is re-branding and putting finishing touches on the space on Second Avenue. The new name will be Radici. Owner Rudy LaValle is offering Kickstarter donor rewards like dinner for four and the chance to name and create a seasonal cocktail.
Dot's Charcuterie and Bistrot
Miles James's excellent butcher shop and deli went on hiatus last week, but it's been announced that it will reopen at the end of the month, February 26, with a new name, hours, dinning room expansion, and service options. Also to come, for those so inspired, butchering classes.
The new German bier hall in Pioneer Square is unveiling a new happy hour and tasting menu. The daily happy hour offers $4 beers and wines, and food specials like grass-fed beef and cabbage turnovers, and cheese and beer fondue. The three-course, $30 tasting menu happens every Thursday night; optional beer, cider, and liquor pairing are an additional $15.
After a busy 2013, Joshua Henderson is planning a sports bar in Pioneer Square, according to Eater Seattle. The bar-restaurant hybrid will have a wood-fired oven and a patio for occasional pig roasts. And design elements will come from Matthew Parker, see Hollywood Tavern and Westward.
Taylor Oyster Bar
Taylor Shellfish is planning an oyster bar in Pioneer Square. Not to mention the one already in the works in Queen Anne. This latest location will be in the same building as Rain Shadow Meats Squared and will hopefully be open by the Fourth of July.
Top Pot Pioneer Square
Our hometown doughnut shop has announced a new location above Post Alley, according to Puget Sound Business Journal. The company is planning its first out-of-state location in Dallas, according to D magazine.
