Veggie Grill
Recently voted "Best American Restaurant" in the LA Times 2012 reader's choice awards, vegan haven Veggie Grill has come to Seattle and opened up shop in South Lake Union. This fast-casual restaurant concept features 100-percent-plant-based soups, sanwiches, burgers, and more. The company also plans to open a restaurant in University Village later this year.

Rione XIII
Ethan Stowell's newest project opened earlier this week in Capitol Hill. Chef Brandon Kirksey leads the kitchen, which will serve Rome-inspired dishes such as street-style pizza, gnocchi, fried artichokes and the signature tonnarelli cacio e pepe.

Tin Lizzie Lounge
Possessor of a memorable pressed tin ceiling, the Tin Lizzie Lounge debuted in Queen Anne's historic MarQueen Hotel two weeks ago, according to Eater Seattle. Across the street from Toulouse Petit, Tin Lizzie is all about handcrafted cocktails, dark wood interiors and light fare throughout the day.

Rocco's
Seattle P.I. has the scoop on Belltown's newest pizza place. It's finally open, after delays for not having a hood in the kitchen, and is located at 2228 Second Avenue, the former home of Dope Burger and Noodle Ranch. Rocco's will offer not only specialty pizzas but an impressive bar and happy hour.

Cedars Restaurant
The Mediterranean and Indian spot students flock to in the University District has a new location at Broadway and Jefferson, and according to CHS, has since had long lines stretching out the door every day for lunch. Owner Malik S. Khan said he wanted to give students and medical staff an option of good food, good value, and good people. 

Grub
The new American fusion eatery on top of the hill is now open, reports Queen Anne View.

COMING SOON

Top Pot: Redmond
Looks like Washington won't run out of doughnuts any time soon. Top Pots has scouted a new storefront in Redmond - virgin territory for the empire. Located at 16015 Cleveland Street, the new shop will open in September and serve ice cream as well.

Caffe Torino
As breweries are to Ballard, could cafes be to South Lake Union? Andrea Florissi, a Turin transplant, hopes to open Caffe Torino at 422 Yale Avenue, just a few blocks from La Toscanella. Florissi wants to keep Caffe Torino as traditional as possible, serving standard Italian plates like panna cotta, tirimisu and more unique delicacies. 

Copper Coin
West Seattle Blog reports that Aaron Shepherd is hard at work in West Seattle, remodeling the old Porterhouse restaurant for his new "neighborhood joint" project, Copper Coin. Restaurant-running must be in his blood as Shepherd also owns Hill's Neighborhood Restaurant in Richmond Beach and his family is behind Red Mill Burgers. Copper Coin will feature 20 taps and original, "intelligent recipes." Shepherd is aiming for an October 1 opening. 

Seafood restaurant from Matador team
If recently opening the Kickin' Boot Whiskey Kitchen wasn't enough, the team behind Kickin' Boot and Matador is planning a seafood restaurant in Ballard. The yet-unnamed restaurant will feature an oyster bar, live lobster tanks, chowder, and sandwiches.

Cocktail lovers rejoice: Sambar will be staying open until September 29. What are you waiting for? Head over to Ballard and enjoy Jay Kuehner's concoctions while you can (six more weeks). Another exciting element to this extended run--Le Gourmand masterminds Bruce and Sara Naftaly are in the kitchen.

Michael Seidel leaves Tilikum Place Cafe for The Tin Table
We've told you about Michael Seidel's home-delivery side project, and now the baker is leaving Tilikum Place Cafe to prep pastries alongside FrankWielgosiek at The Tin Table. This new schedule will not only give Seidel more time to focus on expanding The Troubadour Baker, but also allow him to be the resident cakemaker for Century Ballroom.

MistralKitchen
The popular Monday night Arabesque menu at has come to an end; its creator, Taylor Cheney, enjoyed her culinary fact-finding mission to Egypt so much that she is preparing to move there, according to Seattle Weekly. Speaking of moving to other countries (and people named Taylor), MistralKitchen chef de cuisine Taylor Thornhill has moved to Paris to cook at Verjus; sous chef Sam Jung has been promoted as his replacement; chef de cuisine duties include writing menus, working with suppliers and purveyors, and generally overseeing the kitchen staff.

Restaurant Bea
The semimysterious new chef at Madrona's newest restasurant is Jim McCarthy, last known at The Hi-Life, says Seattle Weekly. Changes are happening slowly, but any new dishes are consistent with Bea's northwest flavors.

SHAKEUPS

COA: La Luna
La Luna in Queen Anne has been bought by Edgar Carreon, owner of COA Mexican Eatery & Tequileria, after it was put on the market in April. Carreon plans to merge the two locations, and according to Maple Leaf Life, turn La Luna into an extension of COA: a sophisticated Mexican restaurant with a local twist.

Whiskey Bar to move one block north
After neighboring Buenos Aires Grill bought out Whiskey Bar, formerly at 2nd Avenue and Virginia, to build Corner Bar, Eater Seattle says that Whiskey Bar will be reappearing one block to the north. in the space previously occupied by V Noodle Lounge and Splash Lounge,

REVAMPS

Ting Momo
Tom Douglas' lunchtime Tibetian dumpling (momo) spot, Ting Momo, has left the building to make way for neighboring Brave Horse Tavern, who will turn it into the Tack Room in September. Team T-Doug is readying a food truck so they can take Ting Momo on the road.

Evo Tapas: Theory Vodka Bar
To add to the list of liquor-specific bars (whiskey, rum, bourbon, cider - you name it) that have opened recently, Evo Tapas has been reborn into a cocktail lounge focused on the strong, clear stuff: vodka. The bar currently has 75 bottles, but the team is working on growing to 250.

Magnolia Voice reports that Romio's has closed its Magnolia outpost, and is consolidating at the Western and Broad location.
