Megan Gordon left her job as operations manager at a wealth management firm in 2011 to start a custom cakes and dessert business. Now she's going brick and mortar; her boutique sweet shop Lady Yum is set to open Friday near the Kirkland Marina.

The shop at 111 Lake Street specializes in macarons—the trendy French cookie that’s notoriously difficult to perfect. In addition to regular crowd-pleasers like salted caramel and toasted coconut, Gordon will also be providing more unusual flavors like mango habanero, fennel pear, and maple bacon.

On the off chance macarons aren't your thing, Lady Yum also pours wine and serves plenty of other confections, like some seriously elegant cookies.

Her shop was designed and built by Seattle’s Marian Built, so the 1920s-era space has been fitted with antique chandeliers from Europe and some high-impact turquoise cabinetry. Gordon is particularly fond of the wallpaper in the bathroom, which she says features a bunch of animals partying. That's probably what we'll look like when we're hopped up on sugar from all those macarons.

Hours for opening day will be 10am to 11pm.
