For all of you who have been experiencing a gaping chasm of emptiness and despair where your favorite lunch spot used to be, Mike Easton is back. Well, almost. Easton is readying his pasta shop Il Corvo in its new digs at 217 James Street (he and wife Victoria are running the whole project themselves; no bankers, no contractor, no nothing). And he’s taking the space for a test drive on New Year’s Eve.
Easton is planning a pair of dinners December 31. Seatings are at 6:30 and 9:30; each one will seat about 30 people in parties of no more than six. Dinner will be six courses, most of it family style. The prices ($120 for the 6:30 seating; $140 for 9:30) includes libations, but Easton says fancy pairings are not the Il Corvo way: “It just comes with wine.” The later seating includes a Champagne toast. Easton promises truffles, oysters, and cotecchino will make an appearance.
After ringing in 2013, Easton will close his doors for a few days to regroup. The grand opening in his new space is January 7. He served his last bowl of cavatelli at Procopio Gelato November 30; Easton’s original space was part pop-up, part lunchtime salon. The new address, previously BuiltBurger, will still serve lunch, though the added space will allow Easton to introduce charcuterie and other good times. The New Year’s Eve dinner will be an upgraded version of the weekly family-style dinners he’s planning.
