Last week at this time I was recovering from a late night at the Thaw fashion show; today at this time I am scampering to meet some deadlines. Read: this is gonna be quick.

Thaw visionary Liz Weber told me earlier this week that a whopping $70k was raised at her fashion show/fundraiser on May 7, … and they’re still counting. In a recession no less. It’s a testament to this town’s fever for good-lookin’, locally made duds — and to hundreds of volunteers, merchants, artisans, liquor and wine companies, and restaurants who pitched in to make it happen.

I’ll say this about the latter: My friend and I had two amazing slices of Via Tribunali pizza, gratis. Those folks have been everywhere lately – the Face show, the Thaw show, their own restaurant openings – giving away slices of their pie, and you have to really respect that kind of community involvement—and smart self-promotion.

Another element of community came courtesy of Jimmy Clarke’s U Snaps booth. The Seattle photographer (and Seattle Met contributor) truly pioneered the digital-age neo-photobooth thing, and it continues to be a hit wherever it goes.

Please take a minute to flip through the slideshow here; the images, by another hotshot Seattle shooter, Annie Marie Musselman, give evidence to the strange excitement of backstage anti-drama (the hurry up and wait), the dedication of indie designers, high-style runway hair and makeup by Salon Bowie, the super-cool look/feel of Seattle designer Michael Cepress’s rock-a-billy boys, and a really great night on the town.
