Win a ring! How amazing.

If you have a mobile device and a proven ability to decipher clues under pressure—and if you have a finger that needs a ring—listen up.

The second annual Amazing Ring Race is a Seattle-wide treasure hunt brought to you by E.E. Robbins. You and your soon-to-be better-half travel the city on foot according to directions sent to your cell phone.

Working as a team (good practice! life is like a scavenger hunt, isn’t that what they say??) the two of you gather information based on those texted prompts, edge out the competition (there will be hundreds of you) with your wit, speed, and GPS programming thumbs, and the first team at the finish line claims a $15,000 ArtCarved Bridal diamond ring.

This zaniness takes place on Saturday, August 20, beginning at 10. It’ll all be over by 1, when everyone meets up at Pyramid Alehouse to cast jealous glances at the winners. Who might be you.

Did we mention that it’s free? Enter your email on the Amazing Ring Race site to see about getting signed up.

Tiffany’s free iPhone app could make easier work of diamond hunting

App

They’ve got an app for that: Sizing, settings, and stones from Tiffany & Co are easier with the new iPhone tool

I have to hand it to you; I wouldn’t want your job. Selecting the right stone, the dreamed-about setting, and getting the size right? Engagement ring shopping is tricky work, but, alas, someone has to do it.

It’s a wonder, then, that someone hasn’t done this yet: Tiffany & Co’s free engagement ring iPhone app allows you to browse the collection according to diamond shape, setting, metal, or design — and toggle around to try out different stones with different metals and whatnot. Wedding bands are on view also; mix, match, and email co-conspirators (or post to Facebook or Twitter) what you come up with directly from the app.

Perhaps most helpful is the sizing tool. Tiffany & Co says theirs is the first of its kind in the biz; app users place any ring directly on the screen and align it with guides to find the appropriate ring size. Beats having to secretly steal one for an entire day so that a professional can assess it for you.

’Course, there are those brides-to-be who want to select their own ring, and those who would love an antique or an heirloom piece, and those who have been so explicit and detailed in their instructions that no app is necessary thank you very much. But for serious shoppers hoping to rule out guess work and acquire that iconic blue box with knowledge, confidence, and forethought, this pretty much does it.

Amazing: the Amazing Ring Race

What better way to deepen your love than to wallop the competition and claim a $15,000 treasure together

Ringrace

Ah, the closeness that comes during the engagement period … Picking out your first dance song, wine tasting for that perfect reception vintage, creaming other couples into the ground in a cut-throat, highly strategic, high-stakes, high-tech competition wherein a $15,000 ArtCarved diamond ring is the prize. Isn’t it romantic?

The Amazing Ring Race is a Seattle-wide treasure hunt brought to you by E.E. Robbins. On Saturday August 21, beginning at 11am, teams of two (similar challenges in the past have turned up more than 600 such teams, so, you’ll definitely want to bring your A game) travel via foot, bike, scooter, rollerblade, whatever it takes, using all of Seattle like it’s one big game board. Clues and location-based challenges are sent via text message; points are picked up when the challenges are successfully won. Something like a hometown version of that whole Amazing Race thing, but with a two-hour time frame, and a rock at the proverbial finish line.

The winner will be announced at after-parties at Twist and Ventana restaurants.

The catch is that you have to be chosen to haul booty all over town and sweat bullets as you decipher clues and race the clock. To score a piece of the action, submit your love story at amazingrace.com; sources tell us that those who register prior to August 19th have better odds of being picked.

Oh, and because you know us, you can enter the code word SMET1132 and you’ll be lovingly placed in an exclusive pool of candidates with even higher odds. Lucky you.
