That thing about people on your list who are hard to buy for … I think that’s usually your problem and not theirs.
The case of that giftee who already has everything, or claims to not want anything is easily solved with a handmade object of local origin and uncommon beauty.
Don’t worry about where they’ll put it or what they’ll do with it or if they already have something like it. Have confidence in the inherently unique quality of artisan goods, and have confidence in our friend or family member’s ability to figure it out.
Laura Yeats is one of my favorite fine craftspeople. We featured her wood work here, on this Spree page, about a million years ago. Thanks to the fact that they’re so timeless, the bowls are still ultra-current. They’re also incredibly solid. Weighty. Substantial. And somehow soft.
What’s more, they’re 10% off through the end of the month. The artist says there is a nice selection of low bowls, buckets, and burl wood treasures at Urban Hardwoods — many for under $100.
