Tune In
I caught mention of a great topic today on (I believe it’s) Sound Focus on KUOW: Remembering the old Frederick & Nelson.
The segment is definitely airing at 2:20p.m. (I know I heard that right, whether or not I got the Sound Focus part right—forgive me, I was trying to, you know, concentrate on the driving task.) I’ll have to check back later and catch an archived version of it because our whole office is going out to lunch today… In the meantime, as ever, I’ll be remembering Frederick & Nelson via a couple of my favorite thrift store scores that sport the house label — in particular a very 1962 fawn-colored faux fur cropped swing coat that would have been just the thing at the World’s Fair.
(The gorgeous image here, an ad encouraging World’s Fair visitors to shop at Freddie’s while they’re in town, was borrowed from the impeccably maintained site Vintage Seattle — go check it out!)

damn, laura: that vintage seattle site is the truth! good tip.
Isn’t it amazing?? I’m psyched to have the perfect excuse to give ’em a link!
My very first job in Seattle when I moved here from the East Coast in November of 1990 was packaging up Frangos for mail order sales. The store closed two months later, but I’m so glad to have been a tiny part of it. It reminded me of Harrods in London.
I love it, glamspoon. I was totally thinking of Frangos as I was posting this. You can still get them at Macy’s of course, but somehow it isn’t quite the same…
