Four Winds on Queen Anne

Say you were going to the beach this weekend. Or, say you were just planning to spend some time by the pool. Say you were considering doing some yard work and then running through the sprinkler for old time’s sake. And say you felt like you needed a super-easy apres water cover-up but you weren’t sure where to find one. If you asked me, I’d tell you to try Four Winds on Queen Anne.

I stopped in yesterday because I was in the neighborhood and really loved the ikat -inspired tunics and imported silk, cotton, and linen wraps and scarves that can be used as saris. Granted, I’ve personally never had a lot of luck winding a long rectangle of fabric around by body and then, like, actually, walking or sitting in it, and it doesn’t matter how often one of my well-traveled friends goes, “Here, it’s easy, just do this” but you’re probably more gifted in that department. Let’s hope, because the fairly traded Far Eastern textiles at Four Winds really are gorgeous.

A word about tie-dye, batik, and ethnic/tribal prints: Around here, there might be a tendency to see these looks through the lens of the Solstice Parade or Hemp Fest. What I’m saying is, for some, those looks might seem overly specific. Don’t get me wrong: I have nothing against that Fremont-y vibe — my Fidalgo Island upbringing ensures that I’ll always have something of the pottery teacher thing in my wardrobe. But in case you’re feeling it’s too raw food-and-naked bicycler for you, well, I’ll just point out that these looks can be elegant enough for the likes of Oscar de la Renta and Harper’s Bazaar.
