Happy Hour
The latest in HHs around Seattle.

First of all, there’s the happy hour at the upstairs bar at Madison Park Conservatory, which MP residents in particular should be tickled by.
But also, I wanted to call your attention to some other happy hour situations that may not be on your radar.
Joining Poppy and Panevino in the category of Best HHs on Broadway is Samurai Noodle. All three locations of the ramen restaurant offer HH from 3 to 6pm daily; on Capitol Hill the discount menu features three separate combos at three price points: $5, $8, and $12. Visit their site for details.
The Broadway noodlery also has a number of sake options and a menu of sake cocktails offered at the bargain price of $3.50. Sapporo, Manny’s, and Mac and Jack’s are on tap.
Meanwhile over in Eastlake, Little Water Cantina has added a weekend happy hour to compliment its 4–6pm deals Tuesday through Thursday. Saturdays and Sundays, it is serving the full menu until 10pm, then turning things over to an HH selection that includes—oh lordy—$2 El Jimador tequila shots. (At least you’ll be shooting the good stuff, since Casa Herradura, which makes El Jimador, went back to using 100-percent agave in 2007. Word to the wise: When a bar offers specials on shots of tequilas marked “mixto,” it’s basically trying to kill you by way of hangover. Still, even if it’s the pure stuff you’re shooting after 10pm on a Saturday, please take a cab home.)

Happy Hour
A very good HH has returned.

HH is back where it belongs at Cactus in Madison Park.
I’m four months late to the table on this one—sorry—but it’s still good news!
Happy hour at Madison Park Cactus is back.
From the restaurant’s operations manager Jonathan Kitgaard:
“We…brought happy hour back to our Madison Park location in January of this year. Additionally, to support happy hour, we changed the east side of our dining room to a self-seated lounge area (daily after 3pm). Now guests can walk right in, grab an open table and have happy hour from 3pm–6pm Monday–Friday and from 3pm–5pm Saturday and Sunday. These tables will also be available for dinner or drinks all night long!”

Grim’s and Barge Bar: Two Notable new drink spots for your consideration.

Gorgeous Grim’s A new bar adds more repurposed flair to the Pike Pine zone.

This weekend marked the opening of two new places for promising drinks and bar food. Hooray.
The first is Grim’s, a lounge on Capitol Hill whose build-out benefited from the considerable expertise of architect Chris Pardo (PB Elemental).
He and Grim’s owner Laura Olson (Po Dog, Autobattery) created the space using lots of repurposed wood to beautiful effect. The lounge had its official opening Sunday (with a well-attended preview on Saturday), and is hosting a grand opening celebration this Thursday, December 9 with food and drink specials. Grim’s took over the 11th Avenue space formerly inhabited by Gray Gallery.
The Barge Bar is part of Madison Park Conservatory, a new restaurant from Cormac Mahoney and Bryan Jarr—the guys who owned Tako Truk—in the erstwhile Sostanza space along Madison Park’s restaurant row (Zoi Antonitsas is chef de cuisine). A separate bar menu will include deviled eggs, pate, and a nut mix featuring sultanas (good raisins) and fried garbanzos. I have full faith that Barge will put out smart, fairly priced cocktails as well.
Welcome both.
