On Thursday Beer Is $1 at Marination Station

There’s free dessert, too.

Happy birthday, Marination Station.

Much has happened in the Marination -verse since Roz Edison and Kamala Saxton opened their brick-and-mortar last April. Nunya sauce was bestowed upon us, Andrew Zimmern paid a visit, plans moved forward for a second Marination in West Seattle.

It’s been a big year, and a big year calls for celebration.

On Thursday the Pine Pike Street spot marks its first anniversary with a couple of enticing specials. Namely, pours of Primo, that island-style beer, are $1. There’s free chocolate chip cookies, too, and like the Primo, they’re on offer all day.

Two Dollar Cocktails This Saturday at Moshi Moshi

The Ballard bar turns two, offers an awesome deal.

Moshimoshi

A sushi restaurant with a bar you can believe in, Moshi Moshi turns two this weekend.

A message from Erik Carlson, the really-very-very-good bartender at Moshi Moshi Sushi in Ballard: The restaurant is celebrating its second anniversary on Saturday, February 5.

From 3 to 6pm, everything on the HH menu at Moshi will be $2—including four signature cocktails. So it’s a great chance to toss back a few .40 Calibers: rye whiskey, Dubonnet, maraschino, absinthe, house bitters, or Sunsets in Padova: cucumber vodka, Aperol, lime, agave, and Jamaican bitters.

You’re just going to be sitting around watching football on Sunday anyway, might as well have a hangover. (Please don’t drive drunk).

Gainsbourg Turns Two, Parties All Weekend

Yes, silly. Of course you’re invited.

The original Gainsbourg, in celebration mode.

Gainsbourg is a neighborhood bar in Greenwood that doesn’t remind you of Paris so much as it does an older, cooler girl at your high school who was really into Paris. And from Friday, November 12 through Sunday, November 14, Gainsbourg is celebrating its second birthday. You’re totally invited.

Food and drink specials include $4 escargot and sparkling wine (a cava), $4 Kronenbourg beers, and $2 off all absinthe cocktails. Gainsbourg will also be offering its seasonal cassoulet and signature house dish, oysters Gainsbourg.

On Saturday local Francophile band Les Pamplemousses performs at 9pm. On Sunday night it’s Eric John Kaiser from Portland. He’s supporting his new CD Portland Rendez-Vous.

Here’s Kaiser re-imagining Outkast’s “Hey Ya.”

Happy Hour Spotlight: Art of the Table

This is the delicious weekly deal they don’t want you to know about.

Email
Happymonday

A tantalizing salad from a previous Happy Monday at Art of the Table.

Once in a while I write about something on this blog and end up with a few WTF? emails from my friends who’d rather I didn’t spread the word about a thing they love. They want to keep these things to themselves, you see. I lost a few pals after this one, let me tell you.

And talking about Happy Mondays at Art of the Table is risky business indeed. It’s not that it’s a new thing, this weekly discount at the tiny restaurant in Wallingford. It’s just that people love it, and there is limited seating.

Most nights at AotT, guest sign on for a themed multi-course meal created for them with fastidious care by chef Dustin Ronspies. But on Mondays, this model changes. Wine bottles are $26, wines by the glass are $5, beers are $3, and there is an ever-changing selection of discounted small plates. Last week there was a kabocha squash soup for $5, a short ribs special for $14, and a flatbread with sausage, broccoli rabe, chickpea puree, and some other stuff for $8. You might not know exactly what you are going to get, but you know it will rock pretty hard.

HH at AotT runs from 5pm to about 10. Happy Monday.

Poco Wine Bar Turns Four and Throws a Party

Celebrate with $4 house wines, free snacks, and a raffle.

Email
Poco

The party is at Poco on Monday, November 1. (Don’t worry you won’ t have to wear a nametag this time.)

Have you noticed that when bars celebrate their milestones, we win?

On Monday, November 1 Poco Wine Room is throwing itself a fourth birthday party.

They will honor the occasion in three ways.

1. With $4 glasses of house wines all night. Poco’s house wines were created by winemaker Mark Wysling. The red is a blend of grenache, tempranillo, and mourvedre; the white is 100 percent pinot gris. All grapes were grown in Yakima Valley.

2. With free snacks. Part-owner Peter Moore told me that chef Vanessa Wesley will be laying out flatbreads and other treats throughout the night.

3. With a raffle. Moore says he’ll be bringing up some cellar selections for a raffle. Give Poco your business card, leave with a nice bottle of something something.

The party begins at 5pm.

Happy Hour

Happy Hour Starts Early Outside the Pan Pacific Hotel

On April 30, the restaurants at 2200 Westlake inaugurate their patio, you have an excuse to take a half day.

Email
Summerdrinkgs

It’s supposed to be partly sunny and 58 degrees on Friday, April 30—summer weather, by Seattle criteria anyway. The three restaurants at 2200 Westlake—that shopping center at Denny and Westlake anchored by Whole Foods —are having a party to inaugurate their new outdoor-seating area.

Tutta Bella, Seastar, and the Bar at the Pan Pacific will all be serving a special lunch starting at 11:30; at 2pm all three places will break out their HH menus. That means $5 margarita pizzas from Tutta Bella, $5 Manhattans from Seastar (not to mention raw bar specials like a dozen oysters for $8), some sort of special party punch from Pan Pacific, and all kinds of other stuff that makes going back to work look like a pretty ridiculous idea.

A jazz singer will be on hand to entertain you. Wear your sunscreen.

Bellevue Boozin'

Living Large and Eating Cheap: Artisanal Table’s Extended Happy Hour

Every Monday, the pizzeria in the Bravern offers HH through 9pm. Here’s the deal.

Email
Artisanal_table

Eat for half price every Monday at the Artisanal Table, when happy hour is extended through 9pm.

Everyone needs to go to the Bravern shopping center in Bellevue at least once. It might not be for you, but you need to see it, at least. To know it is there.

If you’re accustomed to squeezing yourself into tight banquettes at the tiny eateries of Queen Anne and Capitol hill, you’ll marvel at the dining rooms that go on forever, at the full moon-sized platters that arrive at your table overflowing with edibles. Everything at the Bravern is huge, crazy huge, and crazy clean. And most things are also, of course, crazy expensive. I mean, you’re not going to get a Tory Burch dress for cheap people, let’s face facts.

But here’s a little something that’s good to know about the Bravern: on Mondays, you can eat cheap there. Because every Monday Artisanal Table’s happy hour, which usually runs from 3 to 6pm, is extended until 9pm. Which means you can eat anything on the entire menu for 50 percent off. All. Night. Long.

The main attraction here is pizza, which at the discounted prices cost between $6 and $9. There are also pastas like papardelle lamb ragu and tagliatelli carbonara, plus salumi plates, salads, etc…. House beers are $3, house wines are $5.

Artisanal Brasserie next door also has a generous happy hour from 3 to 6pm daily, no extension on Mondays, with a dozen oysters on the half shell for $13.50 plus a bunch of wine, beer, and cocktail specials. I like the sound of white-wine sangria ($5)—hey, it may be February, but the sun is out—with St. Germain and peach. The full menu is here.

If, after indulging at the larger-than-life shopping mall, you need to readjust your perspective at a more small-scale venue, I suggest you stop by nearby Naga, the cocktail lounge attached to Chantanee Thai restaurant. It is absolutely a one-of-a-kind sort of place, and it serves very serious cocktails.
