Bloody Mary Query
Help me help them.
So I have these two friends from Wisconsin who grow seriously nostalgic (“nah-stale-jek”) for bloody marys that come with beer chasers. Apparently this is some sort of tradition in the flyover states. They love micheladas, of course, since that offers the beer/tomato combo, but it’s not enough to feed their obsession.
This subject comes up…it comes up a lot. And it’s not that I don’t find it interesting, I would just like to go ahead and find them a place in Seattle that might serve or be willing to serve a “bloody” with a juice glass of PBR to accompany. I think I saw these two seriously hungover looking hipsters order something similar at Roxy’s in Fremont one time, but I can’t be sure and if I call Roxy’s right now and ask them, they will f’ing kill me. Saturday breakfast there is really intense, (and intensely delicious. Best bagels I’ve found in Seattle.)
So, if anyone has any leads (or for that matter, if you just want to tell me who has the best bloody marys in town, I never order them but suddenly find myself in the mood), I’d appreciate it. The Sconies also thank you.

Not sure if they do chasers, but bloody marys at Linda’s are great.
It seems like most bars would be happy to do that for you although I’ve never asked. What about places that normally sell schooners of beer and also have liquor?
I guess the trick would be the place would have to have really good bloody marys but also carry PBR and be willing to serve it in a small glass like in the photo. Tall order?
I’d agree with V8 that Linda’s bloodies are great. Probably the greatest I’ve found in town so far.
I’ve been meaning to check out 22 Doors, too…Since all their cocktails are great, I figured they’d know how to whip up a good Bloody. Am I right?
Another tip to any bartenders out there reading this: A wee bit of Guinness at the bottom of the pint glass adds a nice touch and great consistency.
Mr. SconnieNation numero dos here. I agree with all, Linda’s has great Bloody Buddies that are fairly inexpensive, another reason why Chris has a teeny crush on Ms. Derschang. The Guinness adds a lot (especially with a bit of Sweet Baby Ray’s), and a pickle makes THE BEST garnish. Hands down. I’d even take the pickle over the chaser, because I know I can always get an Oly for just a “doll-hair” (Chris Farley, anyone?)
zayda buddy’s does serve a bloody mary with a shortie of beer for either $9 or $10…i forget since it’s been a minute since i was there. it was good, though. it was basically a meal in a glass because there were so many accoutrement….olives, pearl onions, asparagus, pickle, etc. it might have changed, though, since this was about a month after ZB’s opened. one of the best bloody mary’s that i’ve had in seattle (and i’ve made an effort to try as many as possible) is at leny’s in greenlake. if willow’s working, she makes the best. it’s really amazing, and the spice is right. my friend, jen, who works the warroom and chop makes my other favorite. ask for one from her….she’s blonde and super cute, so that helps, too :).
Hello – Buckley’s on Queen Anne serves a great bloody mary accompanied by a beer chaser. The first time I ordered one there I tried to give the beer back, “I didn’t order this” and was informed that the beer back always comes with your bloody mary there! Fun times
Thanks Krista- I am walking there riiiight now!
Wow, thanks Veni and Zayda. I’m impressed. I think I’m going to have to try this bloody and beer “shorty” now that I know where to go.
Nick: no fair.
Not sure about the chaser idea, especially with my green eggs and ham in the morning, but the Pepper-infused vodka Bloody Mary at the Hi Life in Ballard is always worth the trip.
The best I’ve found is Buckley’s! The garnish is almost considered a meal in itself and it comes with the beer chaser! Fab!
LAST WEEKEND I CANNED 60 QUARTS OF BLOODY MARY MIX. I WOULD HAVE TO SAY MINE IS THE BEST AS EVERYONE I KNOW HAS TO GET A QUART FROM ME. LIVING IN THE STIX, YOU MUST BE PREPARED…
Anne: Yum. You can send mine to Seattle Metropolitan Magazine, 1201 Western Ave Ste 425, Seattle Washington, 98101.
maybe i could leave a quart for you in seattle (somewhere)
