The best place for people watching: Cal Anderson Park.

Capitol Hill’s Cal Anderson Park may offer the best people-watching (and adorable-dog ogling) opportunities in town, and a new project called Cure plans to take advantage.

Specializing in charcuterie, cheeses “and everything that goes with them,” the bar is slated to open this spring—owners Amy and Erik Eric Haldane signed a lease two weeks ago for the 750 square-foot space in the Broadway Building facing the park.

The Haldanes are a couple of Capitol Hill dining vets: Amy was a longtime Linda Derschang employee and is currently working at Grim’s; Erik Eric is a mainstay at the Honey Hole.

The wine list should include some rare finds, says Amy, and the focus will be on bottles that pair well with cured meats, cheeses, tomato jam, and other Euro-style snacks. A limited cocktail menu is also in the works. Zoning will probably prevent an outdoor seating area, at least at first, but Haldane says she’d love to install new windows for an open-air feel.

Mallet Incorporated is helping the Haldanes create the interior, which will be in part inspired by a European butcher shop. “Very old world,” says Amy. “It’s kind of a concrete block right now, so we want to soften it up. But nothing too feminine, you know?”

An early April opening is hoped for. Stay tuned for updates.
