The Crumpet Shop in Pike Place Market Takes a Break

Earthquake proofing prompts the several-month closure.

Oh, how we’ll miss you: Red lentil soup and a tomato, English cheese, and pesto biscuit from the Crumpet Shop in Pike Place Market.

If the earthquake kerfuffle does bear fruit, at least one of our waterfront favorites won’t be blindsided.

According to notices posted on its door, The Crumpet Shop in Pike Place Market is temporarily closed for “earthquake retrofitting and repairs and cleaning.” The notes, signed by “the Crumpeteers,” puts the prospective reopening date at April 1.

Calls to the bakery went unanswered—guess those ’teers are busy bolting fridges to the walls.

Considering that one of the buttery sponge cakes and a cup of tea is the ultimate rainy day remedy, the closure could make for a long winter. But! Nosh has found a suitable replacement.

Addicted is not too strong a word to describe my relationship with the Crumpet shop’s oat bread topped with melted English cheddar. (to say nothing of the all-day refills on the perfect tea.) I was crushed when I heard I’d have to go three months without it. For me, there is no replacement. Am trying to take the long view … indeed, if the earthquake hits, I’ll be psyched to see my fav sandwich shop survive.

Oh nooooooooo! The Crumpet Shop is my favorite lunch spot or just to stop by for a crumpet with ricotta & jam with a delightful cup of Crumpet Shop Blend tea. I will miss them but can’t wait for the grand reopening! Not sure where I will buy my tea to sip at home now though. They also had the best teas to brew at home.
If you haven’t ever stopped by, plan to do so in April when it will be earthquake safe. :)

Not sure what turkey pot pie has to do with crumpets…
