Where to Eat During National Pizza Week

Your options are many.

The ovens at Bar del Corso churn out mighty fine pies.

Seattle hasn’t always been a pizza town you know. Longtime residents talk of days when chains were basically your only option. Thankfully now things are different, saturated as we are with places like Bar del Corso and Serious Pie and Proletariat.

This being National Pizza Week (eye roll) it would seem an appropriate time to survey the many options before us. Bambino’s Pizzeria is a good place to start. From there you can plot your course with this nifty map of Seattle pizza places. And to see how the options stack up against each other, read Seattle Met’s Pizza Smackdown.

Afternoon Snack

Nosh Pit’s Afternoon Snack Break

We interrupt this workday to tantalize you with some delicious local treat. Today: S’mores.

This coming Wednesday is one of those days in which we pay tribute to a totally random food: the S’more. Been awhile since you had one? Here’s where to dig in.

Autumn Martin of Hot Cakes Confections is whipping up cookies inspired by the campfire classic and selling them at the Columbia City Farmers Market from 3–7. (If you can’t make it then, Martin will have the treats at the Wallingford, Bellevue, West Seattle, and Lake Forest Park markets, too.) The cookies are made with hand-smoked chocolate. Martin grew up smoking foods and was formerly head chocolatier at Theo—expect deliciousness.

Blue Moon Burgers is touting a milkshake mixed with Theo Chocolate ganache, in-house marshmallow crème, and graham crackers, crumbles of which sweeten the top. Have at it through the end of the month.

The toasted-just-so mallow pictured here is courtesy Tom Douglas. A trio of his eateries—Dahlia Bakery, Dahlia Workshop, and Rub With Love Shack —are offering the graham guys for $3 from 11–4. Because half the fun of S’mores is roasting the marshy, Douglas promises a fire at each of the spots.

It’s National Doughnut Day!

Here’s where to get freebies.

Krispy Kreme is free today.

Krispy Kreme is celebrating this holiest of occasions by giving each customer uno doughnut for free (of any variety), while Dunkin’ Donuts is… oh wait, no such thing in these parts (what’s up with that?)

If you’d rather show some love to the locals, Mighty-O in Wallingford, recent Food Network Challenge victor, is pouring gratis cups of coffee. Top Pot is hosting a food drive for Northwest Harvest. Bring a donation or non-perishable item to any Pot spot by noon and you’ll be entered to win a dozen doughnuts per month for one year. That’s a lot of maple bars.

Finally, we’d be remiss not to point you to our three favorite doughnuts in Seattle.

Free Pancakes at IHOP

Today’s breakfast, lunch, or dinner: a stack of buttermilks.

Free at IHOP.

This morn marks the first of March, which means it’s National Pancake Day, which means IHOP is flipping free flapjacks. Swing into any of the pancake houses (here is a map of Seattle-area IHOPs) and get a short stack on the house. The free flipping starts at 7am and runs until 10pm, if you’re a breakfast-for-dinner type.

Mind you, this is all part of a campaign to raise $2.3 million for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, so bring a coupla bucks to donate, will ya?

The supersized pies at Northlake Tavern.

Fun fact! October is National Pizza Month. And since we celebrate pizza in this city, it only stands to reason you should celebrate National Pizza Month. We suggest getting your slice of the pie at these Seattle-branded pizzerias. There are 46 of them, and with t-minus three weeks left in October, consider lunch and dinner (maybe breakfast, too?) set for the rest of the month.

Friday is World Nutella Day

Get your fill of the Euro chocolaty treat.

Who needs a knife? Just use your finger!

Apparently Friday is World Nutella Day, and people are stoked. Check out this poster from Faire. A disco ball and jar of Nutella, together. Not really sure what the correlation is, but if anything screams party time, it’s a disco ball.

Faire plans to host “the most chocolaty party of the year," and as such will lather the choco-hazelnut spread on everything—croissants, toast, bruschetta (really?)—and in everything—mochas, martinis, etc.

If you’re seeking something more traditional, there are plenty of creperies around town serving face-splattering, finger-lickin’ Nutella nibbles. Try it with bananas at Anita’s in Fremont, or hit up cozy Cap Hill hangout Joe Bar, where the ambience is almost as delicious as the pancakes. Then there’s up-and-coming Queen Anne darling Citizen.

Volunteer Park Café assembles a sinful (and, watch out, messy) Nutella panini stuffed with strawberries, and it makes for a fine topping at The Crumpet Shop, especially when you let the chocolate sit and soak for a minute or two. Divine. Want it in ice cream? Then try the Nutella milkshake at Lunchbox Laboratory. Want it on a pastry? Head to Trophy (although the Nutella cupcake is only offered Wednesdays and Saturdays).

The options are basically endless. Tells us what else you discover.

Happy Nutella noshing, and may you all feel European for a day.
