The Bellevue and Capitol Hill restaurants dish complimentary dumplings.

Monsoon in Bellevue and Capitol Hill (pictured here) get free-ky for the Lunar New Year.

Here is one reason you want to eat at Monsoon: the restaurants serve up some of Seattle’s best Vietnamese cuisine.

Here is another reason: this weekend both the Capitol Hill and Bellevue locations are handing out freebies in celebration of the Lunar New Year. Will Mason, manager of the Monsoon on 19th, says patrons will receive gratis mochi dumplings dressed in a ginger syrup. What are mochi dumplings? They’re plumped with sticky rice, according to Mason.

The freebies are to be had Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Monsoon Seattle Intros Lunch Delivery

Another midday meal deal from Monsoon: The restaurant is bringing its lunchtime delivery service to both sides of Lake Washington, and to bait Seattleites the boxed meals are discounted 25% through the rest of the month and 15% through September.

In March Monsoon debuted the noonhour meals on wheels, but only for Eastside addresses. Considering sister restaurant Baguette Box totes its gourmet banh mi around town, it only makes sense the 19th Avenue locale would follow suit. Like Baguette, Monsoon Seattle’s delivery route reaches Capitol and First Hills, downtown, and Fremont.

The lunch menu boasts 16 offerings—noodle dishes, rice bowls, rolls, soups, and salads—with all items costing $7-$14 and each order coming with banana cake. Have a look-see at the boxed meals and order form.

Yep, that sound you hear is my tummy grumbling.

A New Spot to Grab Lunch: Monsoon

Monsoon Seattle brings back noon-hour noshing.

A reminder Monsoon Seattle debuted a weekday lunch menu yesterday, June 22. Among the offerings you’ll find a mix of old and new items.

As if the thought of breaking up the work day with crispy imperial rolls isn’t already enticing, note wine is marked down 30 percent during lunch. Bellevue, you can get in on the booze bargain, too.

Deals/Midday Matters

Monsoon Seattle Brings Back Lunch

…and adds a weekday wine deal.

Seeing as I work in Downtown Seattle, I was a little jealous when I heard that people on the Eastside had the chance to order Monsoon East lunch to their offices, but this helps heal the wound a little. It isn’t going to deliver, but Monsoon Seattle is bringing back weekday lunch with a brand new menu starting June 21.

Sweetening the deal is a 30 percent discount on wine during lunch, which is especially great because Monsoon has a very nice little wine list. I very religiously order the Mercer sauv blanc or the Buty chard when I go there—these two wines tend to be crowd pleasers, and I just like the way they taste with Monsoon’s food.

Lunch is served Monday Through Friday, from 11am to 3pm.

PS: In case you didn’t see it, we recently adapted Monsoon’s imperial rolls for the home kitchen. Get that recipe here.

If you’ve had imperial rolls at Monsoon then you know. Know how it all starts with the crispy skin, which encapsulates a flavor-forward stuffing of pork shoulder, shrimp, taro root, and carrot. Mmmm, remember? Now imagine making these deep-fried groaners for guests at you next cocktail party. And now imagine how they will hoist you upon their shoulders and pledge eternal worship to you, their new cocktail party god.

Jess Thomson got chef Eric Banh to tell her his secret ingredient (hint: the leftovers of that ingredient will pair perfectly with the dish itself). He also showed her how to make them, then she adapted the recipe for you. Check it out.
