Missed the great Maria Hines on Top Chef Masters last spring?

Not to worry: The chef and owner of Tilth, who has earned kudos from Food and Wine and the James Beard Foundation, which granted her the Best Chef Northwest award last year—goes back to the small screen August 1 for a showdown with Iron Chef Miromoto on the Food Network’s Iron Chef America.

There she’ll whip up a five-course dinner with a secret ingredient we cannot reveal. (Because, ahem, it has not been revealed to us.) But pay $200 and you can sample it in five courses, at a special dinner with wine pairings to be held Tuesday, August 3.

Call NOW…this one will go fast.

Kirkland’s favorite chef on nation’s favorite food fight

Email

Starting Sunday, October 4, one of our local culinary treasures will launch her bid to become the next Iron Chef.

Holly Smith, former Tom Douglas protege who went on to greatness of her own at Kirkland’s stunning Cafe Juanita, goes up against nine top toques from across the country in the nation’s favorite food fight.

Contestants include Amanda Freitag (Executive Chef, The Harrison, New York, NY), Jose Garces (Executive Chef & Owner, Amada, Tinto, Distrito, Chifa, Philadelphia, PA), Eric Greenspan (Executive Chef & Owner, The Foundry on Melrose, Los Angeles, CA), Jehangir Mehta (Executive Chef & Owner, Graffiti, New York, NY), and more.

Psst: This year contestants will travel to LA, Japan, and New York to show off their global gastronomy. Rumor has it cooking with jellyfish may be involved.
