Things are about to get modernist.

Be still my heart. Resident genius Nathan Myhrvold, he who masterminded the Modernist Cuisine tome out of his lab in Bellevue, will be a guest judge on Top Chef this season. According to the Modernist Cuisine blog, Myhrvold’s epidose will air January 4, 2012. The post claims that “this was the best business excuse that allowed him to check out some of East Texas’s best barbecue. Always thinking about the bottom line, that Nathan Myhrvold. Side note: You don’t often see the blog of a former Microsoft chief technology officer link to people.com, where Top Chef judge and resident sex symbol Padma Lakshmi praises Myhrvold as “one of the world’s foremost experts on paleontology and he’s a barbecue expert.”

Top Chef watchers, commence guessing what sort of wacky competition Myhrvold will be judging. Too bad this season seems to lack a Richard Blais-esque contestant who is obsessed with liquid nitrogen.
