On Thursday, December 9, a new restaurant opened at 148 Lake Street South in Kirkland.

It’s called Milagro Cantina and it seats over 300 people.

This is not a regional Mexican restaurant, mis amigos. The menu is made up of dishes from all over that country, dishes like Oaxacan-style braised chicken with red mole and white rice ($17), and a wild striped bass that’s prepared in the style of Veracruz—with tomatoes, serrano chiles, capers, and olives and a side of green rice ($21).

There are 60 seats in the bar, which has an extensive tequila collection, of course, and where signature cocktails cost between $8 and $13.

Chris Peterson, who has had previous gigs at Cafe Campagne in the Pike Place Market and Bis On Main in Bellevue, is executive chef.
