This morning in New Orleans, Palace Cafe chef Darin Nespit served guests of the James Beard Foundation breakfast a regional riff on eggs benedict—cheddar biscuit, pulled pork, poached egg, and tasso hollandaise—while the restaurant world waited anxiously for the announcement of the nominations for the 2010 awards.

The finalists were chosen by a panel of 400 judges who culled names from a broader list of semifinalists. (See Seattle semifinalists here.) Nominees were announced from New Orleans this morning, beginning at 10am EST.

The winners will be announced on May 3 during the foundation’s annual NYC gala.

Ha! Wonder if Sheehan’s nomination will silence any of his critics up here. [Probably not.]

Ha! I have my doubts about that. He already had a previous James Beard award. I think the criticism he’s received here is a reaction more to tone than writing skills!
