Goodbye Julia’s, Hello Emmer and Rye
Seth Caswell’s anticipated restaurant project takes over Julia’s location on Queen Anne.
This weekend, Seattle chef Seth Caswell (formerly of Stumbling Goat Bistro) announced his long-awaited restaurant project Emmer and Rye will take over the Victorian building at 1825 Queen Anne Avenue North that is currently occupied by a branch of Julia’s. (The chain also has locations on Capitol Hill and in Wallingford and Issaquah. No plans to close them has been announced.)
Julia’s franchise owner Karsten Betd is Caswell’s partner in the restaurant, which will feature affordable, locally sourced dishes: Caswell says small plates will range from $4 to $9; large plates from $11 to $18.
Betd told me this morning that Julia’s Queen Anne will close on January 20th. Caswell hopes to open by February 1st.

Goodbye, hello! This Queen-Anner is very pleased to hear the news. My one visit to Juila’s made me want to silently cry of depression.
I’ve visited Julia’s in Capitol Hill and Wallingford. Both locations were pretty horrible in terms of food and service.
Thank God! I have never encountered such horrible service. the food is far below ‘good’. I welcome this change.
