Old School Frozen Custard Opens
Looks like Molly’s got some competition…
To all the Hill hipsters wasting their precious PBR time in line at the newly-opened Molly Moon’s, to all the children who have to watch hordes of others ahead get their ice cream first, and to the parents who have to deal with their child’s incessant whining about it, take note: There’s a new ice cream joint just a couple blocks further up Pike.
Old School Frozen Custard just opened its doors June 2.
While Molly’s no doubt got an unbeatable arsenal of unique homemade flavors (balsamic strawberry??!!), nothing can really compare to that thickbutterycreamy, down-on-the-farm taste of custard.
We’ve haven’t been yet, but we’re anxious to hear all about it. Fill us in.

YYEEEEUUUUUMMMMM!
So freaking good. My favorite place back home is Leon’s and Old School’s frozen custard is the REAL DEAL. So creamy and smooth. If you come at night they are pretty much churning out fresh stuff right out in the front of the store all night long…I have gone the last two nights…I think today is Mint Chcocolate Chip!
For parents… this place is super kid freindly….actual tables to sit at (whoda thunk it) and kid-friendly flavors and toppings…. no shaved carrots here!
Oh, and it is has less calories and fat per scoop than Molly Moon’s…. win win win.
Must go!
Warning, the line last night when I went was out the door and down the sidewalk… it is not just Old School….it is frozen custard that does it…. this stuff has been aorund for like 100 years and this place makes it just classically.
Ditto, ditto, ditto.
Molly Moon’s is totally hyped up, but no high quality at all. The flavors are weak, but then suddenly one is too sweet or WAY too salty. The ice cream is not creamy at all…. and I of course cringe now that I have heard several places that it is not “homemade”…she uses a bagged mix and pours it into a machine and presses start… I have a problem with false advertising. Not organic ice cream either… false advertising at the start that has just carried over. Boo….okay, enough ranting.
Frozen custard is special on it’s own and trumps ice cream any day. If made right it cannot be beat. This stuff is made right. Went last night and got a scoop of vanilla and a scoop of Kahlua in a waffle cone. Unbelievably creamy.
Did I hear less fat and calories than ice cream? Get out of here right now!
