Beginning November 1, Anchovies and Olives will be featuring an Oyster Power Hour. (Every night of the week from 5 to 6pm, and again from 10pm to midnight.) A variety of oysters (those chubby Shigokus, Kumamotos, Totten Virginicas, etc.) will be served with Chef Stowell’s tasty garnishes and mignettes.

Wash ’em down with $2 Peroni beers and $5 proseccos. The late-night power hour also includes an $8 fish-and-chips.

My friends and I were eager to try Oyster Power Hour on its inaugural day (November 1) but went away disappointed. A&O has limited Power Hour to just its bar stools—all of eight seats—and the area reached capacity approximately two minutes after Power Hour began. Since there wasn’t more seating and we weren’t into the idea of standing in the teeny bar area to reach over others’ shoulders for oysters, our group of five left and went to Poco Wine Bar across the street. No oyster specials there, but it was all day Sunday happy hour with delicious Mac & Cheese for $5! A&O’s Oyster Power Hour is probably best enjoyed if you are solo or a pair, and plan get there EARLY…as in, before the restaurant even opens.

That’s good advice Jen. Poco has one of the city’s best happy hours. ($8 off bottles!) Way to be industrious.-JV
