Today’s Summer Guide Pick: Alison Krauss and Union Station at Marymoor Park

Tickets are still available.

From the Seattle Summer Events Guide:

July 8: Alison Krauss and Union Station featuring Jerry Douglass at Marymoor Park

Admittedly, I was drawn to Alison Krauss because of the company she kept—the same probably holds true for thousands of Led Zeppelin fans who picked up Robert Plant’s new album in 2007 and went “who’s that chick?” when they saw its cover. Their Grammy-winning collaboration had the benefit of T. Bone Burnett’s production savvy—he handpicked what’s been called an eclectic collection of covers for the odd couple’s duets; in doing so, he introduced a legion of rockers to a bluegrass beauty.

After her mega success with Plant, Krauss, who turns 40 this month, has returned to her roots—recording and touring again with Union Station, her backing band since the late ‘80s. She’s a little more country on new album Paper Airplane, but those vocals are still worthy of a rock god.

Krauss and Union Station are joined by guitarist Jerry Douglas tonight at 7 at Marymoor Park. Tickets ($58) are still available.

(Still) On Sale: Tickets to See The National

Brooklyn indie rockers help close out Marymoor Park’s concert season.

Email

I was trawling the interweb this afternoon looking for tickets to Ray LaMontagne’s Sunday show (sold out, ugh) and noticed that there are still general admission tickets available for the National’s concert on Saturday at Marymoor Park. Are the National a little too sullen to be playing a 9/11 concert? Mmmmaybe. On their latest album, 2010’s High Violet, the Ohio-born, Brooklyn-based indie rockers stick to bemoaning everyday struggles like parenthood and finances. But it’s one of the last outdoor concerts this summer, and Okkervil River opens, so game on. Tickets are $43 at ticketmaster.com.

Ray LaMontagne, David Gray to Play Marymoor Park

Maine singer-songwriter joins forces with…“Babylon” man? Ugh.

Email

Full disclosure: Ray LaMontagne’s “You Are the Best Thing” is my wedding song. David Gray’s “Babylon” is the song I associate with a cocky schmoe I dated in college who loved to wear cashmere and talk about how great he was. Pairing the two acts on one bill is slightly devastating, running me through my romantic past like I’m in a Nick Hornby novel. But not everyone associates the British singer-songwriter with nausea, so I figured you should know.

Ray LaMontagne and David Gray play Marymoor Park on September 12. Tickets ($38-$70) go on sale Friday, June 25, at 10am on livenation.com and ticketmaster.com. Ray has a new album, God Willin’ & The Creek Don’t Rise, slated for an August release, while Gray’s expected to release an album of 11 new songs and nine previously unrecorded tracks the same month.

Vampire Weekend to Play Marymoor Park

Tickets for their August 29 show go on sale Friday, May 21.

Email

Indie rockers Vampire Weekend just announced a new one-month North American tour, which includes a stop at Marymoor Park on August 29. Considering the “we were hot 20 years ago” lineup already announced at Marymoor this summer, we’re pretty excited about this late addition. The Columbia U grads tour behind their latest album, Contra, which has more influences than the Mariners have wins. (That’s right, I said it.)

Among them? “Third-wave ska, the Hallelujah Chicken Run Band, Brazilian baile funk, Congolese thumb pianos, Repo Man, Sublime’s 40 Oz. to Freedom, reggaeton, bachata, Bollywood, Philip Roth, Beethoven, NYC 1983, dancehall, and the Beastie Boys’ second album, Paul’s Boutique,” according to their press release.

Tickets ($40) go on sale Friday, May 21, at noon at ticketmaster.com or concertsatmarymoor.com. Opening acts are Beach House & Dum Dum Girls.

As a warm-up, check out one of their new(er) videos, which has some outrageous cameos. Hold out for Jake Gyllenhaal at 2:45.

In case you haven’t heard, the summer lineup at Marymoor Park in Redmond was announced this week, and tickets go on sale this Saturday, May 1, at 10am.
