Whim W’Him: Shadows, Raincoats and Monsters
Jan 14-16
Intiman Theatre

Now in its second year—and its first as Intiman’s resident dance company—modern dance supergroup Whim W’Him doesn’t seem destined for a sophomore slump. Consider that its artistic director, PNB principal Olivier Wevers, still has some of the city’s top talent at his disposal, including friends from PNB and Spectrum. And if their debut at On the Boards was any indication, this weekend’s Shadows, Raincoats and Monsters should crackle with boundary-busting creativity. Wevers isn’t afraid to swap gender roles and stick men in Baroque hoop skirts; for this performance, he taps into his dark side with original works Monster, a commentary on the demons in our lives, including addiction and nasty relationships; and This Is Not a Raincoat, which explores perceptions of reality. Rounding out the program is a new work about death and loss by Belgian-Colombian choreographer Annabelle Lopez Ochoa. Read more about the origins of Whim W’Him here.
