One year ago in the first days of June, chef Jason Stratton and his crew had just completed a major expansion of Spinasse on Capitol Hill, and were putting the final touches on the convivial sibling bar known as Artusi. Twelve months later, this temple to aperitivos (and vivid artwork) has knit itself firmly into Pike/Pine’s already-formidable drinking scene.
The bar is planning a spate of anniversary celebrations, including rolling out alfresco seating on Pine Street, a gift card giveaway, and a list of shiny new drinks, and a new booze-intended slushy machine that might feel like a sin against good cocktails if it weren’t in such capable hands.
And happy hour aficionados, take heed: From June 6 to 10, Artusi’s happy hour menu is available from open to close. This means $3 glasses of wine (served in those delightful squatty tumblers), and a few $5 cocktails that generally come with an education on ingredients like Cocchi Americano, amaro, and grappino. Artusi is a thoughtful drinker’s paradise, but the food is worthy of its kinship to Spinasse, and a few happy hour plates go for $5 as well.
