Andre Benjamin as Jimi Hendrix in Jimi: All Is By My Side.

It just seems fitting that the 40th Seattle International Film Festival would start with the searing guitar licks of a local legend. Jimi: All Is By My Side, the Jimi Hendrix biopic starring André Benjamin (aka OutKast's André 3000), will kick things off as the SIFF 2014's Opening Night Gala film on May 15 at McCaw Hall. The movie centers on Hendrix's early career going from unknown talent to rock star, while struggling to deal with the women in his life (played by Imogen Poots and Hayley Atwell). The early clips that have surfaced online (see below) look quite promising. Jimi: All Is By My Side's writer and director John Ridley, who won an Academy Award this year as the screenwriter for 12 Years a Slave, is scheduled to attend the opening night festivities.

Ticket for the SIFF 2014 Opening Night Gala are on sale now at siff.net. General admission tickets are $50, while the "Red Carpet Experience" tickets go for $250.
