Music videos may not dominate our free time like they did during MTV’s pre-reality TV era, but they can still have a huge impact. Look no further than Seattle’s own Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. Two very different videos by the duo went viral in 2012, slingshotting them to the top of the charts. With the absurd fun of “Thrift Shop” and the powerful message of “Same Love,” they proved that music videos can still be commercially and artistically viable.

Team Up For Nonprofits celebrates Seattle's music scene by hosting Bands on the Big Screen on January 31. In addition to raising money for Northwest Folklife, the evening features screenings of local videos by some creative pairings: Jon Jon Augustavo ("Thrift Shop" and "Same Love"), Tyler Kalberg with indie-soul act Pickwick, Brad Curran with singer-songwriter Kaylee Cole, Hayley Young with Portland chamber-pop band Loch Lomond, and Stephen Gray with hip-hop duo Dark Time Sunshine. Augustavo's video for Allen Stone's "Celebrate Tonight" will also make its world premiere; the director will be on hand for a Q&A after the screening. Ask him where they found that DeLorean...
