If only Kyle MacLachlan, pictured here as the mayor of Portland on Portlandia, took all his calls wearing a helmet.

Washington native Kyle MacLachlan has been doing the press tour of duty lately for TV sketch comedy Portlandia (the third season debuts tonight at 10 on IFC) and had a very Northwest-lovin' chat with Esquire. In addition to talking about his role on the show as the mayor of Portland—who, this season, sends Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein to Seattle to recruit people to move—he covered Twin Peaks (the final episode!), making wine in Walla Walla, and working in a sawmill in Yakima to cut wood for doors to mobile homes.

Esquire, without missing a beat, goes: "It seems like a very stereotypically Northwestern activity." Indeed. It's on my to-do list this weekend, along with fashioning my own skis out of pine and cultivating my coffee bean plants. Regardless, it's a fun interview.

Portlandia season 3 is shaping up to be another cameo-mazing season with Roseanne Barr, Patton Oswalt, Juliette Lewis, George Wendt (Norm!), Bill Hader, Jim Gaffigan, Rose Byrne, Bobby Moynihan, and Martina Navratilova slated to guest star (and rumor of Alec Baldwin playing a meat salesman). Chloë Sevigny will pop up repeatedly as Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein's new roommate and MacLachlan will reprise as the mayor.

If you're not home tonight at 10, you can cobble together your own premiere via the preview clips on IFC. I recommend "Food Coma" and "Spoiler Alert" (which—spoiler alert—contains spoiler alerts).
