Easy Street Queen Anne's Final In-Store Concert Is This Friday

RIP Easy Street.

The time has come. After 12 years of keeping us in vinyl and CDs, Easy Street Records will close its Queen Anne location this Friday (to make way for a Chase Bank, ugh). But at least they're going out in style. Alt-rockers Yo La Tengo will play the final in-store concert—free and all ages—at 7pm. The band's latest album Fade dropped today, so expect some new music and a bittersweet goodbye. (No tears: Easy Street lives on in its West Seattle location.)

When I lived in NYC, it seemed like every time an interesting business would close, it would be supplanted by a bank branch or a Walgreens. In Seattle, I'd substitute "teriyaki joint" for Walgreens, but the bank branch part still holds. As much as it's tempting to see Easy Street as another victim of digital music...I have to ask...with the advent of Paypal, debit cards, online banking, etc. who the hell still goes to a bank to do banking?
