Cinerama will close for two months for upgrades, starting August 30.

An article in Tuesday’s Puget Sound Business Journal reports that Seattle Cinerama will close for two months, starting August 30, for upgrades to the aging movie theater.

Microsoft cofounder Paul Allen rescued Cinerama 12 years ago, but recently decided to change management (dropping AMC Entertainment) and refurbish the building, which opened in 1963. He also plans to add digital sound and 3D capabilities. Read the article here and a statement by Allen’s company Vulcan here.

If you want to hit Cinerama before its hiatus, Dinner for Schmucks is currently screening. UPDATED 8/26/10. Actually, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is screening now, which I can attest is worth your cash. Saw it last night and it’s easily one of the most creative movies I’ve seen since… Inception. Which wasn’t that long ago. But still: It’s a wild graphic novel on screen—Street Fighter applied to everyday romance. Who hasn’t wanted to kung fu kick an evil ex before? Live vicariously through Scott Pilgrim (and the always dry witted and adorable Michael Cera).
