FOR THE FIRST TIME in more than two decades, Kevin Calabro won’t call a single Seattle game of any kind this year. The longtime Sonics announcer made the switch from hoops to soccer in 2009, but after one season with the Sounders FC, he’s out of the booth.

What happened? I want to continue to do NBA broadcasts for ESPN on TV and radio, and I told the Sounders that I might have some scheduling conflicts. They needed someone who could be with them 24-7 for the entire season. I couldn’t be that guy.

What will it be like to go an entire season without calling games for any Seattle team? It won’t be difficult at all. I get as many or more comments from Seattle people about my national games on ESPN than I did in the last two years of the Sonics because no one was interested in watching them.

In retrospect, do you wish you’d gone to Oklahoma City with the Sonics? No. Why would I? I’m doing my radio show now. Plus, I don’t know anyone in Oklahoma City.
