Remember how we said that "this may be the year that one of Seattle’s biggest exports is a drag queen"? Yeah, that happened. Another round of condragulations to Jinkx Monsoon, aka 25-year-old Seattle actor Jerick Hoffer, for winning season 5 of RuPaul's Drag Race last night. (Though we like to think he had it in the bag after his Little Edie impersonation.) Once the confetti's been swept away and the final refrain of Funny Girl's "I'm the Greatest Star" fades out, what's next for Jinkx?
Broadway.com reports that he'll make his New York stage debut in the off-Broadway production of The Vaudevillians this summer (Laurie Beechman Theater, July 9–26). But he comes home in June for six performances of Hairspray in concert with the Seattle Men's Chorus at 5th Avenue Theatre. Let's see who does Velma Von Tussle better: Michelle Pfeiffer or Jinkx Monsoon. Like RuPaul's Drag Race—no contest.
Read on for our Fiendish Conversation with Jerick Hoffer.
