Today's Winner: Ed Murray
This morning, Fizz used the words "whoa" to describe our reaction to mayoral candidate, state Sen. Ed Murray's fundraising numbers for the last week: He reported raising $36,574. (For perspective, Peter Steinbrueck came in a distant second at $10,610 and Mayor Mike McGinn shambled in at $3,390.)
This is where Whoa turns into a Jolt. Murray filed two more disclosures today, reporting another $12,370 to start off this week.
And more than the money: Some of the people who showed up on Murray's donor list today were Vulcan bigwigs, including McGinn's former deputy Phil Fujii. (Vulcan executives are supposed to be in McGinn's corner.)
Fujii, now a public policy specialist at Vulcan, contributed $500 to Murray this week. Ada Healey, Vuclcan's VP of Real Estate, gave $700 to Murray this week. Maria Mackey Gunn, a Vulcan real estate director, contributed $100 to Murray this week. And Vulcan's Community Relations Manager Pearl Leung donated $200 to Murray this week. (Former Vulcan lobbyist Dan McGrady, now at Pemco, contributed $150. McGrady has been a major McGinn supporter and is credited with bringing Vulcan and McGinn together).
Adding insult to injury—McGinn is gung ho on Vulcan's devlopment in South Lake Union and considers the urbanist firm a major ally—Fujii, Healey, Mackey Gunn, and Leung all initially contributed to McGinn, donating to his campaign two months ago. This week, they contributed to Murray.
And Leung, for one, bested her McGinn donation by adding $50 more to her Murray check.
