El Borracho Del Norte
Not to be confused with the soon-to-open and similarly named Nacho Borracho. Del Norte’s owner Kittie Davidovich has closed her New Orleans joint Le Bon Ton Roulé, between Fremont and Ballard, and moved the Mexican-themed El Borracho Del Norte into the space. Davidovich’s original El Borracho taqueria is still happily staying put in Pike Place Market, and an additional Ballard location should be open by year's end.
Looking for a grab-and-go sandwich in Interbay? Gourmondo is the spot. The first public café in nearly 17 years from the local box lunch catering company opened this week. They also got chef Tom Black from Bis on Main to head the kitchen.
Jason Stratton, of Spinasse and Artusi fame, has a new restaurant that opened Monday. The stylish space above Post Alley, and across from the Four Seasons, is able to aesthetically pull off both hot pinks and gold—no small feat. Also of note, chef Carrie Mashaney, who's currently on Top Chef New Orleans, is leading the kitchen and cooking a menu with Spanish inspiration.
Last call for the 37-year-old Capitol Hill dive bar is scheduled for this Sunday, Dec. 15, according to The Canterbury’s Facebook page. Stop by for an ale and to say goodbye to the knight, or possibly buy the knight, and maybe the signage too. However, don’t be too sad, owners of Lost Lake and the 5 Point have plans to reopen the bar sometime next year, according to Capitol Hill Seattle blog.
Mod Pizza: Broadway
The local pizza chain's Capitol Hill location is closing its doors, according to Capitol Hill Seattle blog; sad news for those who like pizza. The other three Mod Pizza locations in Seattle are still open in Downtown, the University District, and at Seattle Center.
After eight years on East Olive Way, the popular supper club is moving. A different location, to open sometime in 2014, is yet to be determined, but will probably not be back in chef Melissa Nyffeler’s apartment, where Dinette originated. The last dinner service will be December 23; stay tuned for details on the new space as we get them.
The classic cocktail bar at the foot of the Space Needle has introduced a new menu, along with the continually changing cocktail menu. Fried chicken, served only on Wednesdays, is sure to pair well with a whiskey craft cocktail.
Library Bistro and Bookstore Bar
The Bookstore Bar is getting a family-friendly expansion and adding "cafe" to the name. Construction starts January 1, with an opening projected for mid-February. During the renovation, you can grab your drink and meal in the Library Bistro.
The local and organic take-and-bake Seattle pizza shops announced a partnership with Haggen Inc. The partnership will bring small 'Zaw stands to Haggen markets in 2014. The Haggen in Snohomish and Haggen's Top Food and Drug in Woodinville will both be getting 'Zaws pizza stands sometime in 2014.
Lunch service is now being offered. Stop by for new Mediterranean menu items like herb falafel with cabbage slaw or a warming lamb-and-chickpea stew.
Speaking of the late Le Gourmand, their former sommelier David Butler is getting close to opening the doors on his new wine bar, according to Eater Seattle. Butler is opening shop, hopefully before Christmas, in Belltown with a Parisian-inspired wine bar. Pour through Le Caviste’s wine menu and nosh on small plates, or take a bottle home (or both).
Esquin Wine Merchants
The Seattle Police Department recovered the 2,500 bottles of wine that were stolen from personal wine storage facilities at Esquin on Thanksgiving, according to the Seattle Times. The stolen wine is worth an estimated $600,000, according to S.P.D. Two suspects have been booked into King County Jail and are waiting araignment. The wine is currently being held by police while they document the evidence and try to find the proper owners.
