Mmmm burgers. This fan photo of "The 8oz" signature at 8oz Burger & Co. comes via the restaurant's Facebook page.

In the language of meat, nothing says “summer” like the humble—or not-so-humble—burger. Here are five fine establishments, from upscale to notsomuch, where burgers are a featured special during happy hour, along with cheap booze.

Lost Lake
Much-loved Hill hangout Lost Lake goes old school during happy hour, 4–6 on weekdays, with a six-ounce super classic cheeseburger, topped with American cheese, letuce, tomato, and onions. On the side, hand-cut fries and a soda. The whole shebang will set you back a mere $4.99. Lots of other food specials during happy hour, too, plus discounted wells and drafts.

8oz Burger and Co.
As Ballardites await their own location, the original at Broadway and Union does happy your from 4–6 every day. Snag the 8oz. signature burger–with arugula, balsamic onions, Beecher’s flagship cheddar, truffle aioli, and bacon—plus a small fry, for $11. Also during happy hour: half off small snacks, plus specials on beer, wine, and wells. A weekday lunch special also happens from 11:30–3; it includes the classic burger, topped with American cheese, and served with fries for $9. (Full menu on website.)

John Howie Steak
Famed steak monger John Howie offers a pretty legit burger, too. Available on the happy hour menu 3–6 every day and all day Sunday, the burger (official name: USDA Prime Beef Bacon Cheeseburger) comes with a half-pound of ground chuck, Beecher’s Flagship cheddar, Kurobuta bacon, “drive-in” sauce, lettuce, tomato, pickle, and sliced red onion, on top of a house-baked bun, for $10. There are specials on wine, beer, martinis, and a rotating cocktail, too.

Lunchbox Laboratory
Every day from 3–6, the science-themed den of elaborate burgers serves up two Scotty’s Classic Drive-In Old Fashioned Cheeseburgers—with fries or tater tots—for $5.99. Add additional burgers to your order for $2.49 or substitute sweet potato fries for $1. By way of beverages, Lunch Box has specials on beer, wine, wells, “infusion experiments,” cocktails, and milkshakes. (Full happy hour menu on website.)

Blue Moon Burgers
According to Facebook, every Wednesday is half-price burger night. Starting at 4, if you order a side and a drink, pay just half price for "ANY burger we serve or any burger that you can dream up." The offer is good 'til closing at all of Blue Moon's locations. Maybe try the June burger of the month: the hot cowboy ranch burger.
