Think You Ain’t No Average Groupie? Try the New Sir Mix-a-Lot Trivia Game

Mix teams with Seattle start-up on Facebook.

June 23, 2011

Ever since “Baby Got Back” hit No. 1 in 1992 (yes, it’s been that long), Sir Mix-a-Lot has pervaded pop culture—but beyond his love of big butts, what do we really know about Seattle’s hip-hop icon?

Time to get acquainted with the man behind the hooptie, says Giant Thinkwell, a Seattle start-up working to connect celebrities to fans through interactive social media. Their latest game, Mix-N-Match with Sir Mix-a-Lot, gets Facebook users to answer Mix trivia—nothing too complex, just questions like: What would Mix think is worse: muffin top or cankles? Or: What would Mix think is scarier: too much plastic surgery or not enough plastic surgery? If you get it right, you can win an exclusive track by the rapper or a ride down Broadway in Mix’s Lamborghini. Get it wrong, and he’ll "blast your ass."

"Really, it’s a fun romp through his mind in which he is the host of the game and all the while he is smack-talking you," said Adam Tratt, CEO and cofounder of Giant Thinkwell. Along with fellow cofounders Kevin Leneway and Kyle Kesterson, these TechStars grads have been dabbling in celebrity social media since 2010, when they developed Raising Uncle Jesse: a Facebook game centered on nursing a baby version of John Stamos’s Full House character. Mullet included. Unfortunately, the game didn’t fly—Stamos didn’t want to relive the good old days. But Sir Mix-a-Lot is happy to participate (just watch the video below).

"The center of gravity in being a fan continues to move toward Facebook where there is this expanding universe of the famous and the fame-ish,” said Tratt. "Our premise was that it doesn’t really matter how famous you are, but whether you want that fan base.”
